purposes: to provide fire protection services and to provide emergency response
services to the residents of Saturna Island.

Mandate
The Province enacted the Islands Trust Act in 1974 with the objective to protect the
unique character and environment of the islands in the Salish Sea. The Act gives the
Islands Trust, a unique form of local government, the following powers and
responsibilities:
• Official community plans
• Zoning and rural land use bylaws
• Subdivision bylaws
• Development permits

EMERGENCY PREPARATION APPRAISAL

Situations such as earthquakes, tsunamis or fire can leave us homeless; thus we have the recommendation to pack some bins with emergency supplies that are kept separate from the main dwelling. Summer into fall is a good time to check one’s emergency storage bins – desirable at least every few years! I recently set aside my procrastination for this task; here are my discoveries.
