It has been a month since the Islands Trust sponsored the Ground Water Workshop. Many thanks go out to Trustees, Bev Neff and Dian Johnstone, for their work to make the workshop such as success.
More recently the Moderator’s Report and Minutes of the Proceedings from the Islands Trust have been released. If you haven’t already read the two reports, the SIPOA board encourages all members to read them.

Re: Proposed Bylaw 104
Recently the Saturna Trustees asked the Islands Trust planner to draft an amendment to Bylaw 99. It would apply to all building on Saturna. Bylaw 104 received first reading on June 22, 2011. The public is being asked to comment.

In case of wildfire or other emergencies, please remember that only private roads or driveways provide access to beaches and water access on private property. When possible, request permission for emergency use. Maintain an awareness of high and low tides. In ordered evacuations, Coast Guard boats will be patrolling the island and Parks Canada can use its landing craft vessel.

To soften the journey (a bit)… Corporate blue seat padding has belatedly appeared on the new metal seating on the Mayne Queen.
Visioning the schedule…. In early July Southern Gulf Island ferry advisory committee representatives will meet with Saltspring Island reps to discuss ideas about scheduling for both route 9 (that’s the mainland) and route 5. The SSIFAC has been working on some possible schedules and this is the other islands’ first chance to see what they've achieved and add their input.

Recently I heard about and researched the British Colubmia Property Tax Deferment Program, a little known and relatively little used, program sponsored by the provincial government.
Now that property tax time is upon us you may wish to give some thought to using the British Columbia Property Tax Deferment Program (BCPTDP) as well. The program has been around since the 1970's and is user-friendly.
